Issue Features USAID Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah, PSI Board Member Ashley Judd, U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer

PSI, a leading international health organization with programs in 67 countries, launches the latest issue of its global health magazine Impact, which answers the question: What is the future of international development?

Fifty years ago, President John F. Kennedy created the U.S. Agency of International Development (USAID) to address Americans’ increasing dissatisfaction with foreign aid. Today the U.S. spends less than 1% of its total budget on foreign aid. How will sweeping new USAID reforms enable the Agency to make the most of taxpayer money? And how are international organizations approaching development on the ground?

Impact goes straight to the source to answer these questions.

USAID Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah and five senior officials, in exclusive interviews, break down the Agency’s USAID Forward reforms, and how they aim to build strong, vibrant governments that will one day operate without U.S. assistance. In addition, presidents from World Vision, FHI and the International Federation of Planned Parenthood explain their unique approaches to building strong communities in the developing world.

This issue also features PSI Board Member Ashley Judd, who shares an excerpt from her new memoir, All That Is Better & Sweet, and talks with Impact Editor-in-Chief Marshall Stowell about how her experiences with PSI shaped her humanitarian work.

Impact also spotlights the devastating tuberculosis epidemic in India. One innovative partnership among private companies, local organizations and the government is bringing counseling and treatment to the workplace – where people need it most.
