Report Highlights Role of Innovation in Expanding Development Resources for the Future

In a report about financing for development delivered today at the G20 Summit, Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, urged leaders to commit to increasing the pool of resources dedicated to development or risk causing irreparable damage to the livelihoods of millions of the poorest people.  Underlying these recommendations is the idea that innovation can multiply the impact of the resources devoted to development.

More than $1.2 million in critically needed medicines and medical supplies from AmeriCares have arrived in Somalia to help thousands of starving children and adults suffering from widespread famine and one of the worst droughts in over a half century.

The emergency shipment from AmeriCares Stamford, Conn. headquarters contains enough critically needed antibiotics, pain relievers, IV solutions, maternal and child health products and surgical supplies to treat an estimated 20,000 patients. The medicines were specifically requested by the Ministry of Health based on critical need, and are currently being distributed to hospitals, clinics and mobile medical teams treating the sickest and most severely malnourished patients in and around Mogadishu.

Africa's premier mobile music download service Spinlet has announced sponsorship of the 13th annual Felabration October 10-16th, 2011 at The Afrika Shrine and other cultural centers in Lagos, Nigeria. Felabration was created by Yeni Anikulapo Kuti in honor of her father Fela Anikulapo Kuti in 1998 to commemorate the musical icon a year after his passing.

Nobel Peace Prize winner and human rights campaigner, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, is to attend to One Young World 2011.

Despite announcing his international retirement from public life in October last year, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu will play a central role at the Opening Ceremony of One Young World 2011 Summit and Chair the Plenary Session on Interfaith Dialogue. The Summit will be held in Zurich this September.
