A Dialogue On The Fair Representation And Equitable Treatment of 16 – 24 year olds.“A child, like all other human beings, has inalienable rights” Lucretia MottThis historic dialogue was attended by several hundred youth of all ages, nationalities and cultures representing diversity throughout Jacksonville and Northeast Florida. While Republicans engaged in debate at University of North Florida that were at times disrespectful and demeaning more important and far reaching debate and dialogues were diagnosed and discussed concerning the future of our community; the teens, tweens and young adults that reside here, make an economic impact,attend our educational institutions, and the affects of the criminal system on our youth.The youth in attendance were able to ask questions generating an enriching discussion opening up further talks about the responsibilities and accountably of parents, lawenforcement, politicians and educators. Professional Educators, Social Service providers, those that care for Foster children, Church Leaders, Health Department representatives and Law Enforcement representatives attended the event to get an understanding ofyouths interpretation of their place in society.

They have hit the economic wall and have nowhere else to turn," said Pearl Algere-Lonian, Director of Financial Aid at Xavier University of Louisiana, one of the 38 historically black colleges and universities that are members of UNCF (United Negro College Fund).

250 Students from 48 HBCUs Head to Orlando April 10-12 to Battle it Out at the Nation’s Only Academic Competition Among HBCUs

Students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) from all across the nation are making final preparations to vie for academic glory at the nation’s only HBCU academic competition - the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (www.hcasc.com). This two-day competition will test students’ knowledge of history, science, literature, religion, the arts, social science, and popular culture while giving them the opportunity to win much needed grant money for their schools. In all, more than $300,000 in institutional grants will be awarded.

Starting Point unveiled its groundbreaking new Read2Me program today with help from the Cleveland Cavaliers. Read2Me aims to help close the gap in boys' reading by bringing male volunteers into early childhood classrooms to read books geared to the interests of three-to-five year-old boys. The Cavs' Scream Team and Mascots Moondog and Sir CC jump-started the program's launch, bringing their boundless energy and entertaining style to the Family Life Child Care Center of Maple Heights, where they read books, played games, danced and interacted with the boys in the classroom.
